Baai-Bor Women in Australia Inc is a non-profit South Sudanese women's organisation, aiming to encourage development and educational opportunities for women and children in Bor, South Sudan. Howevere, the group has been and is continuing to provide support and information to South Sudanese women living in Victoria, Australia, on available resources and services that refugee women and or women with low levels of english are not familiar with. Most of its projects are funded by the local government and private sectors. About Sudan; Sudan is a country located in Northeastern Africa. It is the African's largest count. The country is divided ethnically and culturally between Arabic Muslims in the North and African Indigenous Christians in the South. In a cruel twist the colonial British tried to unify the country and placed the capital in the North. Civil war and genocide followed and went on for over twenty one years which left the South devastated. Between the years of 1983 and 2005, two million people, mainly women and children, were killed in the South with a further four million displaced. This war initially started in Bor. The last three generation of South Sudanese have grown up in a hopeless and helpless environment. Life in South Sudan is still indescribably difficult, even though a peace treaty between warring factions was signed in 2005. No sections of the population have been more greatly affected by the civil war than women and children. Almost all have either witnessed or been victims of atrocities, or have been forced by circumstances to commit them during the war. Women and young people have no access to education and health services. Hunger and poverty are keys factors in increasing the vulnerability of women and young people in South Sudan. Baai-Bor Women in Australia Inc believe that, for people to respond to needs of the world and its people, word alone or individual help is not enough for those without fathers, mothers, husbands, wives, food, clothing, shelters and a basic education.
